Annette Obrestad made the news this week and not for her poker prowess or as some put it “her luck.” The recent advertising campaign run by Betfair Poker who many of you will have seen already featured the new bread of poker player, Annette Obrestad along with some fellow Betfair sponsored pro’s where on show and the advert used catch phases such as “Online experience is measured in games, not years. Join the new breed. Annette_15″
Annette_ 15 is Obrestad’s online poker alias but it seem as though the adverting standards agency has help up a complaint made about the adverts stating it “was likely to have particular appeal to children and young people, and that, by representing a successful young poker player with the implication she was 15 years old, it could encourage young people to gamble and was therefore irresponsible”.
We actually see this as a fair comment, when you do look at the advert it does actually appear as though Annette is 15, she is actually 20 years old and hit the headlines in 2007 when becoming World Series of Poker Europe Champion netting £1,000,000 in prize money and the coveted bracelet. Annette is from Norway and a name now synonymous with poker, recent wins include 13th in the ept Monte Carlo in April 2009.
The Advertising Standards Agency has stated the advert must NOT appear on TV again in it’s current format.
