Bank cards frozen after playstation attack

This isn’t so much poker related news (although you will possibly use your bank card to deposit/withdraw) but some UK Banks have frozen customers cards after playstation psn attack.

We found this out after a frustrating night last night (Wednesday) when out own card wouldn’t work, this morning the same, then a letter arrived from the Cumberland Building Society where the funds are kept.

The letter stated:

“I am writing to advise you that we will shortly be issuing you with a new visa debit card and a new pin to replace your existing visa debit card and pin. Your new card should be with your by Saturday the 30th of April 2011 and your new pin should be delivered within a couple of days of this.

The society has taken this action as we have been advised that your card details may have been compromised following a hacking attack on an online service.”

“In this instance the society has taken action to protect your account, and a stop has therefor already been placed on your existing card. You should not attempt to use it in a cash machine or in a shop as it will be rejected.”

According to today’s papers, Playstation have advised people to take action and cancel their credit and debit cards since the hacking happened, the person or persons responsible have gained access to over 75 Million users information, pretty scary stuff and with it being 2 bank holidays there could not be quite the celebration people were predicting!
