Popular UK poker player, Chaz Chattha, produced a remarkable performance to come from last to first on the final day of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Main Event in Luton. Having started play with just ten big blinds remaining, Chattha overcame a powerful table which included online pro Andrew Feldman and EPT winner Toby Lewis to claim his first GUKPT title and first prize of £59,360.

No Longer the “Nearly Man”

Victory in a GUKPT Main Event was no more than the experienced player deserved – having three times previously finished on the final table to add to two further Main Event cashes and six others in GUKPT side events. In fact, this was Chattha´s first major victory in an open tournament since the win which put him in the poker limelight – the Bellagio Cup in August 2006.

Shoving His Way to Victory

With no option other than to pursue a shove-or-fold strategy, Chattha came out the blocks running. By the time the first players started departing from the table, Chattha had collected valuable uncontested pots to put him in a more comfortable position. Two in quick succession put him right amongst the chip leaders – first with A♠ A♦ against Bertie Keegan´s K♣ Q♥ and then with A♠ Q♥ into Michael Huber´s A♦ 10♦.

Short-Handed and Final Table

As the table became short-handed, the chip lead flip-flopped between Chattha, Lewis and Feldman, with the online star making his own mini-comeback from a short-stacked 300,000 to 1.3 million. However he was stopped in his tracks by Chattha when he ran his Q♦ Q♥ into Chattha´s K♣ K♦ and was eliminated in third place. Taking a 2:1 chip advantage into the Heads-Up, Chattha allowed Toby Lewis to take down the first five hands without a flop, but on the seventh hand got Lewis all-in with A-10 against his own A-K and it was all over.

GUKPT Luton Final Day Positions
