Poker Stars may be mostly an American focused poker site when it comes to sponsored players, but it’s a poker pro from the U.K. that just became the latest addition to the esteemed Team PokerStars professional team of poker players sponsored by PokerStars to represent their site in many of the biggest online poker and live poker tournaments in the world.

Julian Thew of Nottingham is mainly familiar to players and fans of the European Poker Tour (EPT), also a PokerStars staple, where he cashed in 8 different tournaments, twice reaching an EPT final table. Additionally, Thew was the winner of the Baden bei Wien event in Austria, which came with a € 670,800 cash award. He also won the 2005 Grosvenor Grand Challenge Main Event in London, collecting £48,000 for his efforts.

Thew’s total career winnings amount to more than $2.4 million and he is ranked 13th highest on the EPT leader board, making him the highest ranked poker pro on the list from the U.K.

Thew’s first responsibility as a member of Team PokerStars was to represent the site at the recent UKIPT Manchester (or the Manchester stop on the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour—one of PokerStars’ latest innovations).

Julian Thew is in good company, joining fellow Team PokerStars pros like Jude Ainsworth, Vicky Coren, John Duthie, J.P. Kelly.

All this under his belt and Thew’s nickname is still yoyo for all his frequent swings from big winnings to equally big losses. Still he is known as one of the game’s most fierce players from the UK. Before signing with PokerStars, Thew was originally with William Hill Poker.

The 4th running of the Party Poker Premier League of Poker tournament has just finished up, and Frenchman David Benyamine was the winner.

The PartyPoker Premier League of Poker IV may have taken place live in Las Vegas, but it is in the UK where the Premier League of Poker television broadcast has become the most popular poker tournament on TV each year.

The PartyPoker Premier League of Poker is an annual Sit ‘n’ Go tournament with a minute player pool of 12. As a league tournament, players are awarded points depending on how they finish in 4 out of 6 scheduled Sit ‘n’ Go’s.

The buy-in for the Premier League of Poker IV was $100,000. Every point a player accumulated in the contest earned them $2,000. But ultimately, only one player could walk away with the top title, and this time it was no novice or amateur or even a cocky young gun of online poker (like PartyPoker qualifier winner Giovanni Safina—who at least managed to make it as far as the final table). No, it was poker pro David Benyamine of France who beat out Phil Laak, the tournament leader from the start, as well as Luke “Full Flush” Schwartz, J.C. Tran, and Daniel Negreanu.

The final two spots at the PartyPoker Premier League of Poker IV final table were filled by Brits triple crown winner Roland de Wolfe (for winning EPT, WPT, and WSOP event each) and Ian Frazer.

The online qualifier Giovanni Safina won his spot in a €100 buy-in PartyPoker online qualifier and wound up finishing in 3rd place for a $158,000 payday.

Win Seats At Euro City Poker Tour From Titan Poker

Get into the Euro City Poker Tour Barcelona event, and several other EC Poker Tour events this year, including ECPT London, ECPT Malta, ECPT Vienna, and ECPT Venice all at Titan Poker.

Titan Poker, the biggest site in Europe and on the iPoker Network, is the official sponsor of the EC Poker Tour, and as such is hosting numerous satellites and super satellites into the events. The latest round of Super Satellites, being held every Sunday and Monday for a €200 + €15 buy-in, and every Wednesday for a €80 + €8 buy-in.

You can however, get yourself into the Super Satellites for much less by winning you seat through one of TitanPoker’s daily satellites, with a variety of Stage 1 tournaments running at all hours, many of them being Turbo, short stack, Speed, and/or rebuy-addon events, and with a wide range of low buy-ins.
The winners of ECPT Barcelona Super Satellites will win €4,800 ECPokerTour Barcelona prize packages that include full accommodations, flight money and spending money, a ticket to an exclusive welcome event, and of course, the buy-in of €2,750 for the ECPokerTour main event March 19 – 21.

Join Titan Poker Now – bonus code “INSTANT25″ for $25 Instant upon deposit plus 150% up to $500
Titan Poker Goes To Hollywood
(Edit)

Europe’s top poker site, Titan Poker, is making its big screen debut this month in a new movie entitled From Paris With Love, starring John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction).

The leading online poker room on Europe’s iPoker Network has joined up with Luc Besson, the famed French film director of The Sixth Element (among other great movies) to have John Travolta’s character, the film’s main character, play online poker on the TitanPoker site. Besson is co-writer and producer of the film, but the directing helm for this one was taken by Taken director Pierre Morel. Irish star Jonathan Rhys Meyers will costar with Travolta in the film.

This will not only be great publicity for the Titan Poker online poker room, of course, but it will also be a great boon for the movie, since TitanPoker is dropping a bunch of its money into helping advertise and promote the film, not to mention the enormous existing player base the site already boasts, creating pretty much a captive audience for the film

To celebrate the upcoming release of this movie, TitanPoker will be running a special From Paris With Love themed online poker promotion, with prizes of tickets to the film and up to $5,000 in cash.

The title and genre (though not the story) of From Paris With Love is said to be a take on the Ian Fleming book To Paris With Love, which introduced the spy of all spies, 007 James Bond to the world, and that later developed into the film starring Sean Connery in the famed role of 007, From Russia With Love. Despite all this James Bond influence, From Paris With Love is not a James Bond film.

Poker Stars is counting down to its 40-billionth hand and its taking its players along for the celebration.

Every hand dealt at Poker Stars (and every other poker site online for that matter) is numbered, in sequence, for easy hand history tracking. Since its inception, the world’s largest online poker room, PokerStars, has dealt out close to 40-billion hands. As that pivotal number approaches, the site is rewarding players with a slew of #40-themed promotions.

Starting at hand number 39,601,000,000 Poker Stars will be celebrating every millionth hand dealt. Each time that goal is reached, Poker Stars will reward all the playes sitting in at that table. Every player will receive a bonus of $40 multiplied by the number of VIP points (VPP) that all the players at the table have accumulated collectively during the last 40 hands dealt. The winner of every millionth hand will also get their pot doubled.

For the 40-billionth hand, the VPP points counted will be multiplied by $400 instead of $40 (and the winner still gets his pot doubled).

For the Sunday Million at the end of this month, February 2010, PokerStars will increase the guaranteed prize pool from $1 million to $4 million and guarantee the first place winner a $1 million prize.

Throughout the promotional period PokerStars will also have a bevy of 40-related freerolls, cash games, and Sit n Go’s going with bonus prizes above and beyond the cash rewards that alredy come with playing real money online poker at PokerStars.

In total 228 players sat down to day 1a of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour in Manchester, play was completed just after 3.30am this morning (Friday) after a 2pm start time on Thursday.

The G Casino in Manchester has never looked so good as it was completely packed out with a few famous faces and well known UK Poker players in the mix. Day 1b kicks off again at 2pm with around 246 expected to take their seats, these include Teddy Sherringham the former Man Utd Footballer looking to pick up another title in the City!

For those of you who are Manchester Utd supporters you could be sat beside Teddy or indeed Darren Fletcher if that’s what floats ya boat.

As expected this looks to be the largest UK Poker Tour of the Year and break some records along the way, the power of the pokerstars brand and the option for players to qualify onlne for as little as £5 make it something very few will be able to match.
