ept berlinSorry to be bringing you this news a few days late but there was some quite entertaining news at the Pokerstars EPT Berlin Final event this past week. An armed robbery took place at the EPT Final Table event in Berlin. Six men invaded the tournament in broad daylight. Luckily, nobody was hurt and a police investigation is currently underway.

The police are looking to gather photos and video so if you know of any contact the authorities. It’s still unknown how much was actually stolen but it’s expected to be between €240,000 and €700,000 – so a significant amount.

One of the poker pros, Julian Thew, had this to say about the incident,

“wow, it was really very scary, I was on a table in the middle of the room, there was a commotion outside in the lobby & we figured a fight had kicked off. All of a sudden there was lots of screaming (there was a ladies event running as well…) & folks were just running towards our end of the ballroom, the feature table stage seemed to collapse & we dived under our table with no idea what the hell was going on, our dealer said ‘earthquake’ & apparenty someone had shouted in german that there was a bomb which no doubt caused the panic. After a few moments we all started to crawl quickly towards the fire escape & we were all pretty quickly outside.”

There is a video floating around youtube of this incident but it’s not the best quality. Take a look at it below.

The EPT got things back on track very quickly after this armed robbery episode. Come back here often for updates on the armed robbery and more news from the EPT Berlin Final Table.
