Julian ThewThe fabric of U.S. online poker may be being torn apart at the seams, but it was a home victory this weekend at the Dusk Till Dawn Monte Carlo event, as Nottingham boy Julian Thew took first place. The English player managed to beat a field of 291 other hopefuls before taking his victory via a deal cut by the final three players.

The first deal proposed was based on the chip stacks of each individual player, which would have meant Thew walked away with £66,400, Tom McDonald with £56,600 and Sunny Chattha £49,000. However, this proposition was rejected by McDonald. He agreed to the second, which saw himself leaving with £60,000, Chattha with £52,000 and Thew with £62,500 as well as the official win.

Thew is nicknamed “Yo-Yo” in the pro circuit due to his aggressive playing style, which causes his chip stack constantly fluctuating up and down during a game. He is a rising young talent in the British poker circuit, who has managed (in addition to his Dusk Till Dawn victory) to clock up a stream of celebrated recent successes. These include 1st place in the 2010 UK & Ireland Poker Tour in Galway, 1st place in the 2009 Deep Stack Extravaganza, Las Vegas as well as cash finishes in the Dusk Till Dawn Monthly Deepstack, the EPT Germany in Berlin, the EPT Barcelona, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, the 2008 Paddy Power Irish Open in Dublin and the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour. Thew’s total live winnings have exceeded $2,500,000, and he is currently signed by  PokerStars.

The final table positions and winnings for the Dusk Till Dawn Monte Carlo event were as follows:
