Karl MahrenholzKarl Mahrenholz has claimed victory in leg 7 of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour 2009 netting over £37,000 in prize money and a seat to the coveted champion of champions event held later this Year.
Altough the lowest field of any GUKPT Main Event Mahrenholz beat of 120 players on his way to victory including final table of a very high standard, notables included Jon Kalmar who finished 5th, Norwegian Andreas Hoivold took 4th spot while, Internet pro Craig Swotton claimed £17,400 for his 3rd place finish.
An epic heads up began seeing Karl with a 3/1 chip deficit against Iwan Jones, Karl Mahrenholz eventually took the advantage with Ace King Vs Joneses Ace Queen, the very next hand Iwan pushed his remaining 13,000 in with Ten 7. Karl had Ace 4 which was good enough to seal the deal. Karl a 27 poker pro from London and member of the notorious hit squad is a formidable opponent and one of the UK’s most respected players.
Karl’s recent appearance on the televised European Open showed just how good of a player he is, although unlucky he did show that he was by far the better player at the table, he even pointed this out in his exit Interview.
