Those who like to name-drop would have found themselves more than accommodated at this month’s Palm Beach Game in London. Taking place at the Palm Beach Casino in the heart of the city, the event attracted some of the biggest names in British poker. These included James Akenhead, John Duthie, Victor Ilyukin, Priyan de Mel, Jeff Kimber, Tom Macdonald, Karl Mahrenholz, Michael Greco and Jon Kalmar.
The overall winner, however, was Praz Dansi. The Hit Squad player outlasted a field of 90 in order to take a first place prize of £32,900. He also won a Las Vegas package worth $5000. Former World Heads Up champion Nik Persaud also took a $5000 Vegas package after knocking out Gary Oakes, who carried a bounty on his head.
London born Praz Dansi is one of the UK’s proudest poker experts, having previously won two World Series of Poker Bracelets. He has also taken first place wins at the WPT World Championship, the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, the Seventh Annual Five Star World Poker Classic, The Vegas Warm Up and the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. His overall winnings now exceed $2,300,000.
The former recruiting consultant, who first downloaded poker software onto his work computer and taught himself to play, will be preparing himself to head along to Vegas soon to compete in the 2011 World Series of Poker. With his impressive resume, and level headed playing style, he might just be able to add a third bracelet to his collection.
