Although the event lasted until 5am, Spain had something to celebrate last night as one of their own took home the title for the Paradise Poker Tour Madrid Main Event. The final four players agreed to split the cash prize, but played on to determine who the overall winner was.
For the heads up Baldur found himself facing fellow Spaniard Jose Maria Somolinos. Calling his opponent’s bluff with an all-in while holding Q♥ 5♠, Baldur went on to score a heroic victory after the flop came down K♥ 7♠ 5♥ 2♥ 2♠. For his troubles, Baldur took home a bankroll boosting €19,800.
Currently working full time as a professional cash game player, Baldur emphasised that the win was doubly special for him as it was won on home turf at his local casino. He did admit to not normally being a tournament player: “I’m a professional cash game player right now” he said, “but I enjoy tournaments, they make a nice break from the routine. If I can travel playing tournaments as well – that’s even better!”
From the 28th to the 31st of July the Paradise Poker Tour will return to Spain for the Grand Final in Barcelona.
