Phil Ivey suing FullTilt and NOT playing the WSOP

Phil Ivey not playing wsopPhil Ivey has broken the silence of pro’s and fires out against Full tilt Poker with a filed lawsuit against them. This is dramatic stuff and Ivey says he will not play the WSOP 2011 as it’s unfair to do so when others cannot!

This all surrounds the silence from Full Tilt poker and there as yet inability to refund US players money after their accounts were seized by the FBI last Month, it looks like a bad sign that Ivey has almost taken things into his own hands, does this mean Full Tilt despite their own short and infrequent statements are in serious financial trouble?

Iveys statement read:

“For many years, I have been proud to call myself a poker player. This great sport has taken me to places I only imagined going and I have been blessed with much success. It is therefore with deep regret that I believe I am compelled to release the following statement.

I am deeply disappointed and embarrassed that Full Tilt players have not been paid money they are owed. I am equally embarrassed that as a result many players cannot compete in tournaments and have suffered economic harm.
I am not playing in the World Series of Poker as I do not believe it is fair that I compete when others cannot. I am doing everything I can to seek a solution to the problem as quickly as possible.

My name and reputation have been dragged through the mud, through the inactivity and indecision of others and on behalf of all poker players I refuse to remain silent any longer. I have electronically filed a lawsuit against Tiltware related to the unsettled player accounts. As I am sure the public can imagine, this was not an easy decision for me.

I sincerely hope this statement will ignite those capable of resolving the problems into immediate action and would like to clarify that until a solution is reached that cements the security of all players, both US and International, I will, as I have for the last six weeks, dedicate the entirety of my time and efforts to finding a solution for those who have been wronged by the painfully slow process of repayment.”

As Ivey is widely renowned as the best player in the World and as a man of honesty/integrity you can understand where he is coming from with this. Someone really did need to say something about the poor state of affairs and who better than the most famous face of Full Tilt Poker? themselves made a statement just a couple of days ago, one part in particular made me worry for those concerned “We are raising capital to ensure that the US players are paid out in full as quickly as possible.” when you put this in context, pokerstars who had the exact same issues have refunded US players in excess of $100 million and continue to do so, why can’t full tilt do the same?

This is obviously a story that will keep on rolling and rolling. Is it now possible to see a mass exodus of US poker pro’s boycott the WSOP in a show of their support for US poker players who have their funds stuck with fulltilt and others?
