Main Event #5

Day 3 closed at the Empire Casino with another new face at the top of the leader board – New Yorker Ronald Lee. When play starts again in London today at noon, Lee will be holding a healthy 120.000 chips advantage over the rest of the field as the remaining 22 players battle it out for a place on the final table, the £830.401 first prize and coveted WSOP bracelet first won by Annette Obrestad five years ago.

David Peters and Andrew Pantling – runner up to Phil Laak in WSOPE Event #1 – respectively hold second and third spots, whilst Phil Ivey and Viktor Blom (aka Isildur1?) also hold healthy positions.

Unfortunately, there will be no success this year for PokerStars´ Daniel Negreanu, who has made the final table in the past two Main Events, and three other Full Tilt Pros – Barney Boatman, Greg Mueller and Roland de Wolfe – have all made the cash. Whether they make it through Day 4 and onto the final table, we shall have to see.

High Roller Heads Up #4

It looks like being the tournament of the plaster cast, as Gus Hansen (broken leg) overcame 21 year old Jim Collopy to win his first WSOP bracelet and £288.409. “For sure a monkey off my back” Gus was quoted as saying, and having admitted he had been a little bit fortunate in earlier rounds hobbled off into Leicester Square for a good nights sleep. (Event #1 winner, Phil Laak, has his arm in a plaster cast after a driving accident last month.)

Certainly the Full Tilt Pros are having the better of this championship, and some of the outstanding poker play seen to date may well overshadow the embarrassing “entrance” by Phil Hellmuth.

If you have not seen how he managed to mistake the Empire Cinema for the Casino watch it below. Apparently “Grown Ups” is showing this week, and he wanted to know what it was like to be one!

Keep following UK Poker Player´s coverage of the WSOPE and also the EPT London and forthcoming GUKPT Brighton.

I really wish Phil Wouldn’t try making a great entrance, and when he does why it is always terrible? I could have done better by myself with a recorder and a pair of hot pants!!
